CLASS DEFINITION: In the Office Technology Unit, this class is accountable for providing software and hardware assistance with ordering, installing, configuring, and servicing all word processing work-stations and peripherals.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Manager of Office Technology or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Supports DOS and other related office technology products such as word processing, electronic mail, desktop publishing, and fontware; coordinates and monitors user training programs; conducts initial user training programs; evaluates and requisitions computer-based training modules and other multimedia training packages; provides ongoing support for hardware and software, including upgrade coordination and installation; receives calls for maintenance and resolves user problems; evaluates new technologies in office work-station products as user needs require; participates in user groups in an effort to enhance exchange of information an maintain awareness of developing user needs; may develop user manuals; maintains microcomputer inventory records; may assist in designing and planning special applications; performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Knowledge of microcomputer work processing systems, including concepts, terminology, applications and capabilities; knowledge of procedures and documentation needed in relation to office automation applications; knowledge of office automation techniques; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze, research, and recommend action related to system and agency needs; ability to analyze and apply software options for optimum effectiveness; ability to comprehend and apply complex oral and written instructions; training ability; ability to identify and resolve equipment and application problems.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience: Two (2) years of microcomputer experience, including problem diagnosis, training, support, word processing application, design, and development of user manuals.
Special Experience: One (1) year of the General Experience must have included utilization of laser printers, fonts, and providing training on hardware and software.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Incumbents may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
